Statement of Faith
Our founder owes his Dharma to the teachings of Great Master Xuan Hua
who articulated the following guidelines for cultivation.
This become our Guiding Principles of Lu Mountain Temple:
Freezing to death, we do not climb on conditions
(scheme for more favors).
Starving to death, we do not create conditions
(beg to survive).
Dying of poverty, we do not seek (to establish) conditions.
We accord with conditions, but do not change.
Not changing yet we accord with conditions.
We adhere closely to the (above) Three Great Principles.
We renounce our lives to do the Buddha’s work.
We mold our destinies as our primary work (attain sagehood).
We rectify our lives to do the Sanghan’s work
(propagate the Dharma).
Encountering phenomena, we awaken to the principles
Awakened to the principles, we apply them to phenomena.
We carry on the mind-transmission of the Patriarchs' singular lineage.
We ask ourselves: Do I not fight?
We ask ourselves: Am I not greedy?
We ask ourselves: Do I not seek?
We ask ourselves: Am I not selfish?
We con ask ourselves: Do I not benefit myself?
We ask ourselves: Do I not lie?
We ask ourselves : do I eat one meal a day?
We ask ourselves: do I always wear my precept-sash?
This is the honored tradition passed down from our patriarchs:
We dutifully abide by it.
